Way out in front

High frame rates are incredibly important, particularly for racing games. F-Zero X remains a perfect example of this.

This is one of the fastest, most fluid racers of all time. Featuring blisteringly high speeds, creative track design and responsive controls, this game was racing nirvana for Nintendo 64 owners. All of this at a stable 60 frames per second – especially impressive, given the amount of titles for the same console that suffered from low frame rates!

There are some fantastic games on the same console whose frame rates make them difficult to play these days. Happily, this isn’t the case with F-Zero X.

It wasn’t just a spectacular racer, but also a really interesting technical showcase.
